Last weekend marked a host of local races as well as Round 2 of the Sligo Road Race League. A successful weekend of running, there was a huge combined race attendance, and not for the first time in 2019. Running is booming. Running Clubs and Running Groups are the driving force behind these successful races and it’s easy to see why. If you are on the fence about joining a club then this is for you.
Runners who are a part of a club or group run all year round. It’s part of their lifestyle. It’s because these clubs and groups help keep them motivated at times when they would otherwise quit.
They will help you in the same way. Training is directed and organised. It’s more fun and much more sustainable than trying to tackle it all by yourself.
You don’t need to be an elite runner. This is a myth. They are always friendly and approachable with experienced coaches.
If you are feeling like running is a chore, then try your local group or club. It can be hard, but sticking with it for a few months is essential to experiencing the benefits. It takes time to get to know the other runners and get into the groove of training. We’ve come to appreciate running as a privilege, and like all things, it’s often an experience best shared with others.
We couldn’t recommend them enough. Get on google and check out your local club!
